Anti-Bullying Presentation by JLine Dance Crew--GFMS/TFHS  -The Bullying prevention program is a priority in the District, keeping everyone safe, engaged, challenged, and supported. This dance crew performs a 45 minute interactive, high energy assembly that focuses on anti-bullying, leading an anti-drug lifestyle, staying in school and pursuing your focus in life.
 
Beauty and the Beast Musical Costumes--GFMS/TFHS Gr 6-12  -- 42 students  This grant will provide for the rental of some special costumes for the Beauty and the Beast Play being presented in March.
 
Cells, Water Cycle, and Adaptations--Sheffield Grade 5 Jim Klaiber will present a series of workshops on this topic.  Each class will receive 3 instructional workshops on this topic.
 
DeerfieldPlanetarium--Gill Kindergarten and third grade 34 students.  This trip will provide visual  material to both the third and kindergarten classes about the  movement of the Earth and moon.  The Kdg class is studying the solar system through the Magic Tree House series. The 3rd grade students are studying the topic as part of the Science Curriculum.
 
Field Trip to Starrett Tool Company, Athol, MA--TFHS up to 40 students.  This trip will focus the students on manufacturing on a high tech level.  It will also supply Career Awareness for the students.  This experience can not be seen in our current school setting.
 
 Making Connections:  Wireless measurement, sharing, and presentation of environmental data--TFHS 74 students total (Freshman Academy Science and Greenhouse)  This grant will allow for purchase of LabQuest2 and   LabQuest Viewer Software which is compatible to the PAR and CO2 sensors previously purchased.  It will allow the students to share their data wirelessly and project their data for student presentations. 
 
Middle School Anti-Bullying Event "Teen Truth"--25 students in the middle school.  This grant will allow these students, who have been working all year on 2 committees formed at the GFMS, to attend this program being held at Six Flags in May.  It will provide a culminating activity for these students.  They have worked hard all year providing ways to keep students safe and to provide a more positive learning environment for GFMS.
 
 Music for Relaxation--Therapeutic Classroom at Hillcrest 3 students.  This grant will pay for a Stereo system and 3 relaxation CD's.  Music is an integral part in special programs because of the soothing affect it has on  students, especially high anxiety students.  This is a new program and the teacher is looking for worthwhile equipment  that  will enhance  these students' learning styles.
 
Sharing our Stories--All elementary students in preK-6 grades.  This grant will help fund Eshu Bumpus' visit to the elementary schools. He will tell stories in 6 separate age appropriate sessions, plus will work  with one grade at Sheffield to help students create their own stories.  A culmination will take place on the second day, in the evening, at Sheffield School.  All parents and families will be invited to hear and create their own stories!
 
States of Matter, Weathering/Erosion/Properties of Soil--Sheffield Grade 4 students.  This grant will allow Jim Klaiber to provide 8 workshops, 2 per class, on this topic.  It will be a hands-on workshop for the students.
 
MassachusettsAssociation of Student Councils St. Conf.--TFHS  8 students of Student Council.  This grant will help provide funding for these students to attend the MA Conference.  They are fundraising, however students still need to provide their own funds.  This grant will help offset costs.

College Awareness & Exploration Trip--TFHS  Gr 10 & 11 This is a College Fair trip to be held April 13, 2015.  This trip to the Springfield National College fair will expose students to a variety of colleges from different locations without having to "travel" to them to get information.
 
Cushion Crate Stools--Sheffield Grade 2  This grant will enable the 2nd grade teachers to build these crates, to be used in the classroom, especially when having activities "on the rug".  The crates will define their spaces on the rug. It will also allow for their personal space.
 
Expanding Access to Literacy Activities--Hillcrest PK, K, Gr 1 Pen friend is a device that will allow a book to be recorded and with a "pen and self adhering stickers", a child can take this book and have it read to them.  They will be able to use these books in the library, during morning arrival time, and shared with their parents.
 
Kindness Spoken Here--Hillcrest & Sheffield  All grades.  This grant will allow for purchase of books that revolve around the schools' initiatives:  to be kind and to prevent or stop bullying.  The books will be used as teaching tools for class discussions.
 
Read It Again, Please?--K & Gr 1 Spanish speaking students.  This grant will provide Spanish Speaking families with access to the        many high quality trade and picture books traditionally read to students in primary grades.  Hearing a story in their native tongue would build background knowledge for students and prepares them to receive language instruction in English.
 
"Seeing Options" A visit to Court with a Restorative Justice Class--TFHS  7 Grade 9, 10, & 12 This grant will provide a visit to The Greenfield courthouse to listen to cases presented and make notes on finding restorative solutions to the real world problems they have witnessed. 
 
Story Grammar Marker--15 ELL students in grades 2 - 5.  This grant will allow for purchase of the Story Grammar Marker kit.  The manipulative tools and resources in the kit will provide the students
with a hands on approach to narrative language development as they connect language to literacy.

Learning with Legos!--Sheffield Grade 4 The lego kits will be used in conjunction with the Math Curriculum in small groups and math centers.  There are many skills which provide a great visual, ie. Area, Perimeter, Arrays (mult.) Fractions, volume, surface area.
 
Light, Waves, and Simple Machines--Sheffield Grade 4 - This grant will allow for an outside teacher to come in and teach this unit to each 4th grade class in 3 workshops.  It also provides for materials and supplies.  This is a key Science unit in Fourth Grade.
 
Uniquely Earth, Wind, and Wire-- Sheffield Grade 5 This grant will allow for an outside teacher to come in and teach this unit to each 5th grade class in 4 workshops.  It also provides for materials and supplies.  This is a key Science unit in 5th grade.
